30" Scale Model Rowboat Kit

Scale model after assembly and painting.

Building scale models has always been a part of our design process.  You can tell a lot about the looks, the ease or difficulty of building, and the structural integrity of a boat from the scale model.

It occurred to us that a scale model is a good way of showing the design to perspective customers who may be far away and we can’t show them a full sized boat.  It's a lot easier to relate to a three dimensional model than a two dimensional set of “study plans”.

So now we’re offering a 1/7-scale model (about 30 inches long) in kit form as a communication and educational tool.  It's a great way to study the boat, and makes an attractive conversation starter for your den or office.

Building the scale model from a kit will give you a good idea of what building the full size version would be like, and it only takes a couple of hours.  You do a few things differently—such as using tape instead of copper wire to hold it together while gluing and using one-part wood glue instead of two-part epoxy as the adhesive.  And the long parts are all one piece so there is no splicing.  Other than that, the construction is the same.  The model uses real okoume marine plywood and real cherry hardwood, so the colors when varnished will match the full size version.

We think this is a great educational tool for anyone considering building a boat for the first time.

We think our "Odyssey" row boats are the best touring rowboats ever.  Mostly because of their good looks and excellent performance, but also because they are easy to build.  After you put one of these scale models together, we think you'll agree, and you'll be ready for the full sized version.

Price: $59.00 plus $10.00 s&h in USA
(See catalog for ordering information.)

For those who just want to see a finished model for study purposes, we can loan you a finished model.  A deposit of $125 plus $15 s&h in US is required.  Your deposit will be refunded on return.

Note: The scale models are illustrative purposes only, and purchase of one does not confer the right to build a full sized version.
