Frontrower™: the ultimate forward-facing rowing machine

Picture Odyssey 165 Rowboat
Forward-facing "hands-optional" rowing. You can row the Frontrower™ with your hands or feet or both.
The Frontrower™ forward facing rowing machine features:
  1. The power, control, and exercise quality of conventional (rear-facing) rowing
  2. The practical forward-facing position of paddling
  3. The versatility of upper body, lower body, or full body operation
  4. A comfortable padded seat with a backrest
  5. The ease of spring-balanced self-lifting and self-feathering oars

Ever row a boat, but wish you could see what lies ahead without twisting around?

Ever paddle a canoe, but wish you could use your legs for more power and better exercise?

Do you have a disability (such as an arm amputation) that prevents you from holding a paddle or operating a pair of oars, but wish you could propel yourself in a small boat?

The Frontrower™ forward-facing rowing machine fulfills these wishes.

Frontrower™ rowing system installed in canoe

The Frontrower™ rowing system is a "drop in" rig you can install in many existing canoes and rowboats (see Slide Show of Owner's Boats).

It is easy to use – easier than paddling or conventional rowing, and with a shorter learning curve.

It is ideal for recreation and daily exercise.

With hands-free rowing, you can use your hands for photography, birding or fishing.

The Frontrower was designed to be practical and easy to use. And it delivers power efficienty. This combination makes it ideal for recreation and exercise purposes. However, it is not intended to compete in collegiate-style rowing races, becaue it violates the rules. But it has competed impressively in some of the world's most grueling long-distance human powered boat races having open or experimental classes (see Bragging Rights and Rowing Efficiency).
